How it all started…
Ecole Salem Education EBNJ Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose purpose is to provide assistance to organizations that provide education and healthcare to those without access to education, literacy for adults, and vocational trainings locally and globally, thereby empowering our students and families to break the cycle of poverty.
Our partners include a school in Desdunes, Haiti, a rural community with extreme poverty and teen pregnancy. Food, healthcare, counseling, and career guidance at the school remove barriers to education and empower the community to break the cycle of helplessness and poverty. Ecole Salem Education EBNJ Inc. is committed to educating every student from preschool to 9th grade. The student body has successfully grown from forty-seven students in 2006, to two hundred and fifty-four (254) today.
It costs $200 a year to educate a child. In addition to the educational funds, teachers must be paid and the building must be maintained. Haitian parents understand the importance of an education and appreciate the impact that it can have on their children’s lives. Nevertheless, most of the parents can barely feed their families and education costs are a hardship that most feel cannot be surmounted. We, however, are committed to overcoming this barrier one child at a time by providing tuition scholarship, teachers’ salary, uniforms, school supplies for all of the students.
